Yorkshire terrier and his owner are rescued after floods had left them stranded at home for 13 DAYS
A homeowner has been rescued with her pet Yorkshire terrier Elvis after 13 days stranded in her flooded property.
Anne-Marie
Simpson had been cut off since a river near her property burst its
banks when an initial wave of storms swept Britain on December 23.
She
moved upstairs, stockpiled dry food and decided to wait until the water
level receded around her house near North Curry, Somerset.
But further heavy rain only made the
situation worse and she was yesterday taken back to dry land by a rescue
crew which found her by chance.
Members of the Burnham Area Rescue Boat decided to investigate her remote property while carrying out flood training exercises.
Rescue worker Mark Newman explained: ‘We thought we would take a closer look at this property which was particularly cut off.
‘She knew the property was vulnerable to flooding so she had taken provisions upstairs with her and was prepared to wait it out.
‘But it had got to the stage where these were running low and she knew that now was the time to go.’
'I am very grateful to the crew for rescuing us. I had been in the house for 13 days and was keen to get away'

The property has been under several feet of water since the River Tone burst its banks onto nearby floodplains before Christmas.
The
boat crew gave her a lifejacket and survival suit before helping her
onto the boat and taking her half a mile across flooded fields to dry
land.
She will now be staying with friends.
Mrs Simpson was understood to have recently bought the property and said the scale of the flooding had ‘taken us by surprise’.
She added: ‘I am very grateful to the crew for rescuing us. I had been in the house for 13 days and was keen to get away.'
Barb
operations manager Mike Lowe said: ‘We were very happy to help this
lady and her dog, who had been stuck since before Christmas.
‘It was so gratifying to see the look of relief on Anne-Marie's face when we got her back onto dry land.’
