The England midfielder left Carrington on crutches on Thursday afternoon and is now set to miss the Barclays Premier League games against Cardiff, Stoke, Fulham and Arsenal.

Agony: Man United midfielder Michael Carrick sprained his ankle against Sunderland
Carrick, who twisted his ankle awkwardly in extra-time and had to be replaced by Phil Jones, also missed nine games towards the end of last year after undergoing minor surgery on an Achilles problem.
His departure deprived United of one of their principal penalty takers as Sunderland won an error-strewn shootout to book their place at Wembley against Manchester City in March.
'It probably wasn't the group of players we would have chosen to take penalties,' admitted manager David Moyes afterwards.

Blow: United will have to do without influential midfielder Carrick for crucial Premier League games

Welcome sight: Wayne Rooney at United's Carrington training base
'People like Michael Carrick would have been involved if he'd still been on the pitch. We didn't execute our penalties well enough.'
Carrick sat out nine games earlier this season because of an anchilles injury before returning in the 3-2 victory at Hull City on Boxing Day.
His new injury is another blow to the beleaguered United boss, but at least Moyes hopes to have £27.5million summer signing Marouane Fellaini back in action soon.
Wayne Rooney is also nearing full fitness after a groin injury although it remains to be seen if the England striker is back in time for next Tuesday's home game against Cardiff.
